Exceptionally Rare Acheulian French Hand-Axe, Calligraphic Design
#170282
A very large French hand-axe, Seine-Maritime, circa 450,000 BC. Spatulate naviform. One end pointed, the other a cleaver. Fossiliferous chert. Calligraphic form, and entire construction calls into question the casual dismissal of a refined aesthetic sense pre-neanderthal man.
