Serenading the Mobas in our exhibition "Mobas and Motown" are the the mixed-media works on plexiglass of artist Michael Farhat portraying Motown figures and those inspiring & inspired by that music. A native of South India, Farhat has been an American success story, graduating from Otis Parsons, and doing illustration work for diverse international projects including the Simpsons. Farhat chose Motown as his theme, noting the roots this quintessential American music shares with the culture from which the W.African Mobas statutes sprang. As a young man, Farhat explored the connection between music & visual art as a student of Kwasi Badu (b.1932-d.1995), Royal Ashanti Master Drummer.
