African Baule Scepter
#152060

Early Baule Bronze Prestige Scepter, Akan influence, Ivory Coast, West Africa. Solid bronze, old lost wax casting with a heavy concentration of copper. This scepter would have sat on the top of an ivory or other staff, and been important symbol of authority for a King or paramount Chief. Early 19th century or perhaps older. The under layer of verdigris demonstrates that this piece’s surface has been lightly cleaned at some point in its long life. Mounted on a custom stand.
