African Paleolithic Lanceolate Hand Ax #161041
A large lanceolate hand-axe from Libya. Wind erosion left unusual red bands in relief. Gloss on one side. Circa 400,000 BC. This hand-axe appears in "Overstreet’s Indian Arrowheads, Identification and Price Guide", Robert Overstreet, Old World Prehistoric Artifacts section, New York, 2001,7th edition, page 1080, no. 9, in which it is noted by author, "Huge idealized form, sculptural relief and color".
