An African trihedral quartzite pick hand-axe of extraordinary coloration. Algeria. Dated by comparison with dated series at KGA 10 in Konso, Ethiopia: 1.4 million years old. Wind gloss and desert varnish. This shape hand-axe has been referred to as a "mammoth head". This hand-axe appears in "Overstreet’s Indian Arrowheads, Identification and Price Guide", Robert Overstreet, Old World Prehistoric Artifacts section, New York, 2001,7th edition, page 1080, no. 5. Exceptional and unique.
