African Royal Congo Collar #152011
A superb royal Congolese collar, Mongo culture, of solid finely worked pure brass, predating bronze production. While this brilliant piece is in our currency category, it was indeed worn, and a highly prized piece of royal regalia. Evenly spatulated surface of a finely cast piece, marking a very early production period. Beautiful incising at both terminals. Calcified patination. Circa 15th-17th century AD. A rare piece of astounding weight, scale, and finesse. On custom stand. This could have only been worn by an important member of the Royal family or entourage. Very rare.
