Aboriginal N.W. Pre Papunya Painted Bowl #153093
Australian aboriginal NW pre-Papunya Movement painted bowl. An important wooden bowl displaying some of the motifs of the later Papunya Movement. Collected by a construction worker towards Jigalong Mission W.A. or Mulga Park Station N.T./S.A. border in the early 1960's. Natural earth pigments and binders mainly of red ochre, pipeclay, and charcoal on a heavy piece of metal tooled mulga wood. A small amount of pigment loss, and some staining from water or other intrusion, but piece is stable and remarkable. Rare.
