3 New Guinea Ceremonial Boards

Two old Mimika yamate used in the ceremonial emakame feast, the yamate in essence representing ancestor figures. Both from Timika village, Irian Jaya, circa 1950-1965, both collected by the Paulian Missionary Society. Reference: "Kooijman: Art, Object, and Ritual in Mimika Art", Leiden Museum. Together with a Keram River carved board, with complex interlocking linear designs overall on both front and back surfaces. Extensive traces of lime infill on one surface, and a small amount of remnant orange ochre. Keram River, Lower Sepik, New Guinea.
