A fine Kenya, Africa zoomorphic headrest, made of dark, well patinated hardwood. Likely Rendille people. In the form of a stylized animal, and carved from a root mass featuring three legs. Both sides curve upward into phallic terminals. Dark and varied patina turning to a reddish brown. Several age cracks as well as some old worm channeling but integrity is sound. An excellent piece of sculpture. Late 19th to early 20th century. From an old collection of East African Art, Paris.
