A superb miniature seal figure with a human face a "transformation effigy", carved from walrus ivory. With hole allowing to be worn as a button. This piece goes to the heart of Inuit shamanistic tradition. A seal head at one end, a tiny human face at the other. Worn and smooth. St. Lawrence Island. Circa late Punuk or early Thule Period (800-1300 AD). Extremely rare.
