Dogon Ladder
#152072

A quite tall, old and very heavy Dogon ladder, Mali, W. Africa. Long base with graduating steps, terminating in fork allowing the ladder to be leaned to a house structure or granary. These would have been indispensable items of architecture in the cliff houses for which the Dogon were known. Dark patina, glossy overall, particularly at steps. Evidence of long use in culture. Some loss, perhaps old insect damage on back of ladder, now entirely stable. An exceptional example. On a specially designed metal stand.

Weight (with stand) approximately: 45 kilos / 100 lbs
Height: 216 cm / 85 in
Width: 47 cm / 18.5 in
