An important Topeng wooden mask from the Wayang theater, Central Java. Represented is "Sugriwa", son of Dewi Windradi and Batara Surya who was born as a human but changed into a monkey to help Hanuman and Rama defeat the demon Rahwana. Original black, yellow, and red paint, aged patina. Circa 1880. Rare.
