Blowgun, Matis Tribe, Brazil. Extremely long, hardwood barrel with pitch and S. American ostrich eggshell. Quiver made from a section of bamboo, bowl with curare poison for darts, jaw bone, pirhana teeth sharpener, fire starter and poison darts and kaypoc. The Matis tribe had their first contact with the larger Brazilian population in the mid 1970's and at one time in the 1980's less than a hundred members of the tribe remained after the population had been wiped out by new diseases for which the tribe had no immunity. These blowguns take about 3 months to make and are considered the rarest in the world. Excellent condition. Minor areas of wear along parts of the shaft.
