Missouri House Painter Circa 1955 #157005
An interesting piece of folk art which parallels and anticipates abstract expressionism and many other contemporary art movements. This panel is from the home of a Missouri woman, who may never have considered herself an artist, and was likely unaware of contemporary art trends, but who decorated every panel, nook and crannie in her home with paint applied to walls, panels, and cabinets. Most of these panels show bold geometric designs in bright colors. This panel is unusual for its horizontal lines and muted colors. Very good piece. Rare.
