Pre-Columbian Colima Mexico Bird Fantasy #161005
A Colima, ancient West Mexico, bird effigy whistle. Late Preclassic. Circa 300-100 BC. With goggle eyes and the remains of black pigment, and manganese oxide inclusions overall. He is hollow, there are openings in his swallowtail, and between his legs. His stylized feather headdress is unique, fantastic, and a can not help, with his general demeanor, but make us smile. He is fully functional and is attached to a custom teak stand. Formerly in a Los Angeles collection of fine West Mexican miniatures formed over 45 years ago.
