Huari Peru Polychrome Textile #161008
A large precolumbian provincial Huari, Central Coast Peru, painted textile. Mythological Deity figure amid other animal and geometric devices. Gauze painted in orange brown and green. Circa 300 to 800 AD. Such a perishable piece could have only survived because of storage in a dry cave condition. Torn areas atop and right. Mounted on a piece of fine, high quality cotton, from which it could be detached if desired. Very rare.
