Aboriginal Wunda Early Shield #153057
A Wunda shield, very old, that has been in a dry cave for a long time. Western Australia, 19th century, pre-contact certainly. Has seen some weather, faded colors of natural ochres and pipeclay. Now light and a bit porous from age. Found by the well known late Australian landscape painter Fred Klix (Flinders Range, etc) in the 1950’s in a cave. Handle has an old repair that is difficult to discern. There is a spinifex plug in front. There is a slight mustiness about the piece consistent with being in a dry environment for many years. On a custom metal stand.
An exceptional, subtle and rare piece.
