Aboriginal Arnhemland Spear #17 #153016
A very fine, and lethally designed aboriginal arnhemland spear. One piece of wood, which is shaped along the shaft below the sharp point into three raised edges with twelve forward and backward facing prongs on each edge. Stripes and dot designs. This piece appears to be designed as a stabbing instrument, there being a short grip for the hand just below the three raised ridges. Old natural pigments of musky yellow, senna red and brown, and white, with some wear and loss in the old paint and ochres. Circa mid 20th century or before. Great piece.
Length: 142 cm / 56 in
